CYMANDE

The funk-jazz and soul pioneers Cymande emerged as innovators of the Black British music scene during the early 1970’s. Influenced by their Caribbean heritage, Cymande created a new and exciting sound captivating audiences throughout the UK, USA, Europe and the continent of Africa. The band’s perpetual emblem, the dove, symbolizing peace and love, conveys the enduring true spirit of togetherness between this legendary band and its loyal, ever growing fan base. Some 40 years after the band stopped performing, Cymande is back together, as one of the first to merge African rhythms with rock, funk, reggae, and soul. Composed of members from Guyana, Jamaica, and St. Vincent, the nine-man band issued a total of three releases in the 70’s before splitting up. But by the '90s, Cymande became the recipient of a strong cult as several tracks included on the soundtracks to Spike Lee's movies such as “Crooklyn” and “The 25th Hour”, and several of their songs were sampled by rap artists including Master Ace, MC Solaar, De La Soul, Wu-Tang-Clan and the Fugees.
