La musique instrumentale de ce groupe légendaire italien puise largement dans l’univers obscur et funky des cop movies des années ’70. La sonorité unique de l’ensemble repose sur un groove fort et concis qui emprunte aux bandes originales des « giallos » italiens, des films de la « blaxploitation », passant de la musique des Goblin  et d’Ennio Morricone à celle de Curtis Mayfield, Lalo Schifrin, Roy Budd et Isaac Hayes, se référant à l’univers de réalisateurs comme Dario Argento, Lucio Fulci et Sergio Leone. Produite par Tommaso Colliva (Muse, Franz Ferdinand), cette bande sonore percutante, parfois psychédélique, toujours diablement excitante, jouée avec un maximum d’enthousiasme par des musiciens formidables, dégage néanmoins un flair et une pulsion absolument contemporains. S.P.A.C.E., le nouvel album de Calibro 35, confirme qu’il s’agit bien d’une musique du 21^e siècle, se référant cette fois-ci aux films de science-fiction fauchés de la même grande époque, créant une ambiance cinématique et fantastique comparable seulement à celle du Cinematic Orchestra ou de Chris Joss.

This Italian jazz-funk-rock in the style of 1970s crime movie soundtracks is definitely the kind of music Quentin Tarantino is likely to use in his movies. What started as a  B-film studio project just for fun,  evolved into a full-time band able to release five critically acclaimed albums and extensive tours. Songs taken from Calibro’s albums have been included in many movie soundtracks including Hollywood blockbuster « Red » starring John Malkovich and Bruce Willis. The musical scope of this amazing Italian funk combo with the status of cult band, is a mad mixture of ambients intelligently designed, from Italian and American B-movies and serials like « Suspiria », « « Bullitt », « Get Carter », « Starsky and Hutch », Goblin, Morricone and Roy Budd soundtracks, blaxploitation grooves, jazz beats, psychedelic and up-beat dance stuff.
