David Laborier, figure incontournable de la scène de jazz luxembourgeoise depuis plus de quinze ans, a pu s’établir une réputation solide de musicien dans son pays natal et en dehors. Egalement compositeur et arrangeur, il a dans cette fonction contribué deux albums au répertoire de l’Orchestre National de Jazz Luxembourg. Trois de ses arrangements figurent sur l’album ‘Sings’ de la diva béninoise Angélique Kidjo avec l’Orchestre Philharmonique Luxembourg. Cet album a remporté en 2016 un Grammy Award dans la catégorie ‘Best World Music Album’.

Pour ‘NE:X:T’ (sorti en juillet ‘18), son 5e album en tant que leader, David a opté pour un sextette composé du batteur luxembourgeois Niels Engel, du bassiste allemand Sebastian ‘Schlapbe’ Flach, du saxophoniste français Pierre Cocq-Amman, du trompettiste néerlandais Marc Huynen et du tromboniste néerlandais Tim Daemen. Ils présentent un « melting-pot » stylistique composé d’éléments jazz, pop, rock et expérimentaux sans arrangements surfaits. NE:X:T dépasse les limites d’une instrumentation classique. L’approche musicale et instrumentale individuelle de chaque membre du groupe trouve sa place dans les compositions extravagantes de David Laborier.

A fixture of the Luxembourg jazz scene for over fifteen years now, David Laborier has earned a solid reputation both in and outside his home country. As a composer and arranger, David has contributed two albums to the Orchestre National de Jazz Luxembourg and three of his arrangements were featured on the album ‘Sings’ by Beninese diva Angélique Kidjo with the Orchestre Philharmonique Luxembourg. The album won a Grammy in 2016 in the category ‘Best World Music Album’.

NE:X:T, David’s 5th album as a leader (released July’18) features the medium sized sextet format of Luxembourg native drummer Niels Engel, German bassist Sebastian ‘Schlapbe’ Flach, French saxophonist Pierre Cocq-Amman, Dutch trumpeter Marc Huynen and Dutch trombonist Tim Daemen. The project showcases a musical melting pot of jazz, pop, rock and experimental elements. NE:X:T takes the audience to the stylistic edge of jazz music, crossing every boundary of classic instrumentation. Jazz, rock and hip-hop influences open a new musical path to a colorful world of sounds. Each of the players’ individual styles and instrumental approaches shine through David Laborier’s extravagant compositions.
