Liran Donin, a Tel Aviv-born virtuoso who, after years as a sought-after player/composer, has now made an exceptional album of his own. Led Bib alto-saxist Chris Williams is part of a powerful improvising lineup, but the songlike repertoire is much closer to folk and world music. Tracks often end on exhilarating Led Bib-like thrashes, but their melodic warmth has already seduced the listener with sax harmonies recalling Carla Bley (The Story of Annette and Maurice), the earthy folksiness of Avishai Cohen (Alma Sophia, or Noam, Sea and Sand), or the joyous polyphonies of Hermeto Pascoal. Williams’ biting alto sax is ruggedly complemented by the multiphonic tenor sax squalls of Josh Arcoleo, while Donin’s flying pizzicato bass improv constantly takes off on this kaleidoscopic music’s fast-changing hooks. Young Italian pianist Maria Chiara Argirò impresses, too, with calmly spun spontaneous lines and reflective chord melodies. This is complemented by Ben Brown's lively, powerful, and constantly colourful and inventive drumming.  It’s a treat both for those in the jazz backyard, and those looking over the fence.

Liran Donin est un virtuose né à Tel Aviv qui, après des années en tant que joueur/compositeur recherché, a maintenant produit un album exceptionnel. Liran se concentre sur la contrebasse et dirige la musique avec son jeu de basse puissant, groovy et virtuose. Le saxophoniste alto Chris Williams fait partie d’un important groupe d’improvisateurs, son saxophone alto mordant est complété par les bourrasques multiphoniques du saxophone ténor de Josh Arcoleo, tandis que la basse improvisée pizzicato de Donin s’élève constamment sur les rythmes rapides de cette musique kaléidoscopique. La jeune pianiste italienne  Maria Chiara Argirò  impressionne également, avec ses mélodies spontanées et ses accords réfléchis. Le tout est complété par la batterie de Ben Brown, vive, puissante et constamment colorée et inventive. Une composition avec des éléments de musique folk indie mélodique et contemporaine, et de fortes influences des origines israéliennes et marocaines de Donin.
