"Paranoia"

EN
The new album of keyboardist, composer and arranger BOBBY SPARKS II is nothing less than a masterpiece. For two hours and 20 minutes, the Texan presents a firework of musicality, spontaneity, tremendous solos and great arrangements. Funk, Rock, Ballads and Jazz are the components of this journey through the musical universe of Bobby Sparks II, supported by such great colleagues as Chris Potter, Mike Stern, Lizz Wright, Dean Brown, John Scofield, Mark Lettieri, the NPG Horns and many, many more. The new album PARANOIA will be released on 06.05.2022 on LEOPARD.

Born in 1973 in Corsicana, Texas, Bobby Sparks grew up with parents who were teachers and musicians. His mother, a church organist, started him on the piano at age three, and encouraged his love of hymns and gospel music. Similarly, his father played trumpet and introduced him to jazz, including organists like Jimmy Smith, Jimmy McGriff, and Lonnie Smith. He developed quickly, and throughout his childhood played often for church choirs, musical workshops, and vocal ensembles. At age 16, he was gifted a Hammond B-3 which he soon mastered.

From 1992 to 2005, he worked as Franklin's musical director, touring and contributing to albums like 1993's Kirk Franklin & the Holy Family, 1998's Nu Nation Project, and 2002's The Rebirth of Kirk Franklin. With Franklin he earned a bevy of accolades, including numerous Grammy Awards

He is best known as a member of the band Snarky Puppy, and as a long-time collaborator with gospel leader Kirk Franklin. Following his debut with Franklin in the early '90s, he was a member of Roy Hargrove's RH Factor, and played alongside a mix of jazz, gospel, and pop luminaries including Fred Hammond, Marcus Miller, George Benson, Nelly Furtado, and many more.

Brennan Temple has playing drums on since the early 1990s. Temple's ensembles Hot Buttered Rhythm, Blaze, and Black Red Black have won Austin Music Awards for Best Drummer and Best Jazz Band. In 2020, he got a Grammy for Best Rock Performance, Best Contemporary Blues Album and Best Rock Song for his work with guitarist/vocalist Gary Clark Jr.

Jay McK began his career as a saxophonist at a young age, travelling the world and playing with artists he never imagined. At 19, he developed his distinctive musical style and passion for bass guitar. He cites Bootsy Collins, James Jameson, Oteil Burbridge, Victor Wooten, Marcus Miller, Jaco Pastorius, John Coltrane, and Kirk Whalum as influences.

In the tradition of Curtis Mayfield, Smokey Robinson, and Donny Hathaway and a graduate of Stax Music Academy, James Robinson is an outstanding old-school crooner. His songwriting not only reflects his many musical inspirations, but also his concern for the historical hardships and successes of Black men and women in America. His music combines jazz, gospel, soul, R&B, funk, and alternative rock.

Keith Anderson, born in 1970 in Dallas, Texas, discovered music at the age of ten. He began playing the drums before discovering his love for saxophone. He started studying with James Wilson, who would pinch him for each mistake, a method he credits today for his dedication. Anderson has performed alongside Les McCann, Roy Hargrove, Erykah Badu, Kirk Franklin, Kanye West, Marcus Miller, and Prince.

Ernest Green hails from Texas where he studied Communication and Media Studies at Texas Southern University. He collaborates with Bobby Sparks II as a DJ.
