BOJAN Z.  -  artist in residence

Bojan Zulfikarpasic, grand pianiste d'origine yougoslave, a imposé un jeu original et puissant qui tire sa force tant de ses colorations folkloriques ancrées dans la musique des Balkans que d'un enracinement dans la force expressive du jazz. Lauréat du prix Django-Reinhardt de l'Académie du jazz en 2002, Bojan Z se voit reconnu à l'échelle internationale par l’attribution du prestigieux prix Hans Koller (European Jazzprice) en 2005. Pour sa résidence à Dudelange, il a choisi de baser son quartet sur les instruments à vent, procédé largement inhabituel pour cet artiste, « revenant » régulier au CCRD opderschmelz à l’instar de son compère, le célèbre trompettiste italien Paolo Fresu qui va l'accompagner pour ce nouveau projet. En quelques années seulement, Paolo Fresu s’est formé au contact des plus grands noms du jazz international: Kenny Wheeler, Dave Holland,  Gerry Mulligan, John Zorn, Michel Portal. Sans jamais rien abandonner de sa singularité, il dirige ses propres formations très réputées et il forme des duos et trios à géométrie variable. Paolo Fresu a reçu au cours de sa carrière les plus grandes distinctions, se produit régulièrement aux plus grands festivals de jazz. En outre, le public va découvrir Pantelis Stoikos, reconnu comme un des meilleurs trompettistes des Balkans et Claudio Puntin, soliste de clarinette inventif et acclamé par John Zorn.

Multiple prize awarded jazz pianist, Bojan Z started working with the French bassist Henri Texier, later followed by the famous clarinetist Michel Portal. With his special language consisting of a mature jazz vocabulary with subtly dosed folkloric influences from the Balkans, Bojan leaves an indelible imprint on contemporary jazz. In 2002 he receives the Prix Django Reinhardt for Musician of the Year. In 2005 he was awarded the "European Jazz Prize" ( Hans Koller Prize) as the best European jazz artist. Bojan adds Fender Rhodes to his acoustic piano play in which be-bop lines fit in seamlessly with dance rhythms, funky backbeats and folk-tinged improvisations. For his unusual new quartet based on winds, his creation in residence, he works once again with his musician friend, the celebrated Italian trumpet player Paolo Fresu. The public will discover Pantelis Stoikos known as one of the best trumpeters of the Balkans as well as Carlo Puntin an inventive clarinetist acclaimed by John Zorn.
