MANU KATCHÉ

THE SCOPE

FR

Manu Katché has listened to a lot of jazz without really playing much of it. The musical tracks stay blurred when we look at his 10th album,’The ScOpe’, a sensual, frenetic electro album on which Manu Katché combines groove and machinal modernity. Katché is a classical musician trained at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, originally promised to pursue a noble career as a percussionist in a symphonic orchestra.

The very particular “Katché sound” opened the door to recordings for Joni Mitchell, Sting, Dire Straits, Joan Armatrading, Paul Young, Tracy Chapman, Youssou N’Dour, Simple Minds, Joe Satriani... Hailed and rewarded as an exceptional musician and composer, he never gave up his first love: jazz. In 2017-18, he explored the quartet formula by recording ‘The ScOpe’ with long-time bass partner Jérôme Regard (who adapts to all contexts: jazz, pop, rock, and who played with Michel Legrand, Jan Garbarek, Louis Winsberg...), guitarist Patrick Manouguian, who accompanies both great names in jazz (Dee Dee Bridgewater, Minino Garay, Didier Lockwood...) and the French variété (Bernard Lavilliers, Florent Pagny...) and keyboardist Elvin Galland, replaced for this concert by Eric Legnini.
