MARLY MARQUES QUINTET & FRIENDS
CD-RELEASE - SEA CHANGE
ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
FR
Born in Luxembourg, but of Portuguese origin, Marly Marques discovered her passion for singing at a very young age. After a brief musical training, she became passionate about jazz. In 2012, she met the four experienced musicians with whom she has since performed in top jazz venues in Luxembourg and abroad. Their third album, ‘Sea Change’, is the result of the artistic residency of the Marly Marques Quintet in early January 2019 at the the Cultural Centre opderschmelz in Dudelange.
Remaining faithful to its eclectic style, the quintet continues to mix jazz and world music. For this album however, it has had the additional support of four excellent musicians living or working in Luxembourg. The collaboration between these artists from different backgrounds - and the human connections that have emerged from it - created a particluar energy which reflects on the album, complementing and enriching the music of the quintet. Themes such as the sea, nostalgia, love and disenchantment, have resulted in eleven pieces that evolved over the days of the residence thanks to the contribution of each musician.
